Hi guys and gals,

My video collection is starting to suck up a lot of space on the internal drive most of it is sitting in ITunes,I have backed all my videos up on a two part partition on an WD external drive.

My question is can you set up iTunes to be able to play the video content from the external drive only so I can free up the internal drive by deleting ITunes contents.

I also want view my video collection through apple TV gen 2 from the external drive.

I'v requested a quote from a apple reseller to upgrade my drive to a 2TB for $350 If I can't resolve this issue.

Cheers,

Jim

All of my music and movies are on an external hard drive. You just have to tell iTunes in the preferences where they are located.

Now I'm not sure when first setting up the new location if it's best to first copy your media library to the external drive and then point it there or to point it there and then add your content back into iTunes and it will copy it to the new location. Perhaps someone else can recommend.

Once it is set up iTunes will copy any new content you add to the mew location.

I used to have the external drive plugged directly into the mac and it worked with atv 1. Now I have it plugged into my new airport extreme and it works beautifully with atv 2. Only a slight wait when loading a movie.

Common sense is like deodorant. The people who need it most never use it.
