I'm definitely contemplating the Air as a future purchase - either as a work Mac or as a replacement for my wife's iBook G3. Either way I'm not too worried about power consumption.

Picture in your mind a guy who has to part his hair down the middle otherwise he falls over and you would be getting close to the real me. Well, that was me in school, married life has put a few kilos on me since then! tongue.gif

Well CG the current MBA processors are clocked at 1.6GHz and 1.8GHz so the introduction of the new Penryn/Montevina chips will give a considerable boost to the new MBA with chips clocked at 2.26Gig and 2.4Gig as you said. This could suit those wanting the incredible portability of the MBA and the extra grunt for the Apps they run.
However in a report in MacRumours some readers, "Note that Apple may choose to take advantage of the improved power-efficiency of the Penryn processor and instead keep the MacBook Air's processor clocked at the same speed. The decreased power usage could extend the battery life of the MacBook Air." This of course would suit those who use the portability of the MBA and stay away from a battery charging facility for considerable periods of time. It's a bit of a catch 22, so Apple will really need to do some wide ranging surveys of current and potential users to gauge their future requirements and wishes.
I wonder if they will try to cover the best of both worlds by releasing both a 1.8GHz model with extended battery life and a higher spec one with reduced battery life but more grunt??

Nah, TL just trying to give a work-out to the little grey cells up top. Trying to predict where Apple (Steve) is heading is often fraught with danger, but a fun thing to do sometimes. Like your suggested name for the new higher spec MBA - Mac Air Pro, now that has a nice ring to it!!!

BTW I tried to make a killing on the $12 you were offering but I guess the bullet didn't quite reach Endeavour Hills from down here.
