I recently had the HDD replaced on my MBP by my Apple dealer and also had a RAM upgrade done at the same time.

I had backed up the original drive using Time Machine and the dealer did the same before starting the changeover. When the computer was returned the dealer had installed Lion instead of the Snow Leopard installation I had been using from new along with a Boot Camp / Vista partition for gaming.

I tried to partition the new drive using Boot Camp also Disk Utility but was unable to do so as I kept getting the following message "The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS extended volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows".

I have since reformatted the HDD twice and re-installed Snow Leopard twice but still get the same message when trying to partition using Boot Camp or Disk Utility. The Queensland dealer is unable to help any further without me resorting to phone calls to the technical dept.

Get Info shows the drive is formatted MAC OS Extended (Journaled).

Can anyone assist with further checks I can do to find out the problem.

I have attached a screen grab of Disk Utility showing the HDD details.

Thanks

Welcome to the forums, Forbes , have you tried formatting the drive using HFS+ rather than extended ?
Come on 20K

When concerning a startup disk I thought you had to partition it as part of the installation procedure because you can't do it afterwards.
You might not know it to look at me, but I'm pretty radical.

So I'm assuming you've followed the Boot Camp Assistant (Applications/Utilities) first? Can you screen image any errors that throws up?

When partitioning the drive, what account were you using (Admin or Standard)? To me the image looks like you don't have appropriate access to partition the drive...

You can dynamically partition a start-up volume after the installation process. What you can't do is change the partition scheme.
