Going on a road trip out bush, wondering if anyone here has had anything to do with portable solar power chargers for iPad and iPhone?
Thanks

I looked at them last year in my Power Accessories feature. None, even the really expensive one, impressed me much. They rely on good sunlight - something that isn't always easy to come by if you have lots of trees around.

But if your going to "The Granites" you would get plenty of that.....you would just nee to look at the wattage output of the solar cells, this will give you an idea on how they are "Ment" to perform......

Thanks, it seems only the more expensive one with a bigger output will charge iPad. On the plus side - I live in Tasmania, it's always sunny here :)

Update:
Ended up buying one of these from the USA. I find it's really good for when you need to charge the iPad or iPhone where no power is available. I think it would be good when camping.

Dave it's overcast & snowing in Taz half the time, why not AMW purchase one and send it up to me in "Sunny QLD" for a test, I will evaluate and write up a report for the magazine! For free!

Will do, so far really good, it charges the iPhone quickly, little longer for iPad, it's very useful here because of the amount of beautiful and sunny days we get (if not a little cooler), and the lack of smog and pollution in the air!
The unit is tough and waterproof (it works underwater!)

I'm planning to mount it on the vehicle so it charges while driving to camping spots.
I've really not found anything in Australia that's better. The company was quick to ship it out from the US, had it in about 10 days.

I've got a cigarette lighter plug that does that very reliably! Since we live half our lives on a boat, it's a great thing to keep the iPhone/Pad charged day OR night!

Cheers,

Solar power is handy, but as Pete says, you can't beat a good old fashioned cigarette lighter, to charge your iPhone or iPad from scratch in 40 minutes or less.
Come on 20K
