Well I finally got the chance to listen to the new podcast on the way home from work today, and I'm sorry to say I didn't enjoy it. Apart from the sound quality which really isn't that much of a problem, I just didn't like the format. The bit in the pub was just annoying with all the background "chatter". I am not one to just complain about things like this as I am usually quite happy to just listen to anyone talk about mac stuff but i really found this boring, I'm sorry to be so blunt but i loved the old weekend edition and i also really enjoy the US version of the MacWorld podcast. I do realise that it can't be same as the old one with different editors and everything but this sounded like something my Mum listens to on the radio. I love the magazine and I love the forums, but this new style of podcast is just not for me. But in saying that am prepared to give it a few episodes to see where it goes, but if is stays the same I'll sadly stop downloading the Aussie MacWorld podcast each fortnight. This is just my opinion.

Just to be clear...
Ditch the pub? Or ditch the pub and ditch Max and Iadora?
I'd love to have some female content. Easier said than done. Care to audition?

I intend to let Anthony and Adam continue their beer o'clock session for a couple of reasons.
For a start, I don't think it's very fair to make a binding decision based on one segment. Gotta give 'em a fair go, right?
Second, it's not an easy matter to bring together two experienced and knowledgeable tech writers with common interests and enviable expertise in one place at the same time.
These two guys have agreed to make time twice a month to get together to have an informal, unscripted chat where their combined knowledge should offer listeners a little insight into what's happening in areas of technology that should be of interest to them. I think we're lucky they're willing to do that, and their commitment is fueled largely by their enthusiasm, and I think they deserve a fair shake.

Totally support this view.
There were a few things that didn't grab me the first time, but I'm happy to wait and see how they mature over the next few podcasts. If you look at the TV world to many shows don't get a fair chance anymore - if they don't hit the ground running with a massive audience from the first night they get canned. It can be really educational sometimes to go back and look at the first episodes of shows which have managed to last a few years, and you would have to say that some of them would not make it past 3 weeks if they were launched now (The Simpsons is a classic example of this)
Pulling something like this together takes time to get into a groove, and it needs time and support to find a flow. I would expect the podcast we listen to in 6 months to be different to the one we heard last week - but the genesis of it will be there.
So I think we should keep the feedback coming - it is the best chance for AMW to tweak it in the direction the listeners want.
For my part one of the things I like about this type of communication is that it doesn't feel to scripted. The chat in the pub or the interview with the developer were good for being natural conversations. As I have said before, I view these podcasts as a way to get to know a bit of the personality of the people who I have been reading for a while - which comes across in free flowing conversation. I think this is what is behind my initial adverse reaction to Max and Iadora - but again, I'm willing to see where they go - if it is well scripted and performed then it has potential. If not, then the podcast is well structured with chapters, and it will be a single click to skip to the next bit.
