I deleted my Facebook account yesterday for a variety of reasons. It had been brewing for a while and although I didn't do it because of Apple, they helped make it easier. Of course I'm talking about Twitter integration. If Facebook had been integrated as well or instead of would I have pulled the pin? Probably, but maybe not as soon. But in either case it feels good.

Of course, if Twitter tries to pull a Facebook on me I might ditch them as well. And there's very little chance I'll go with Google+, I shut that down a couple of weeks ago also.

Good on you Alex, I dumped Facebook years ago, and if google plus , continues to try and upload pictures from my iPhone like it has for the last 4 days, it will be a goner too.

You probably aren't alone. It seems our fascination with social media is declining on the whole - something I'm glad to see and hoping that it means people are putting value back into 'real' relationships. This article appeared on zdnet recently, although as one comment pointed out it isn't clear if they measured mobile device activity...

i'm on the fence with Facebook, i'm loving twitter, it doesn't seem to paste your entire life and details all over the web, and same as you X i ditched Google+ mainly because i didn't find anyone else was using it, and couldn't be bothered fussing around with another social network, if you class instagram as a social network i love that too

It is funny this business with FB. I am also playing around with getting of it. On a one hand it is a handy way to KEEP in TOUCH and on the other there is a lot pf phoney thing about it. It is so invasive and total lack of privacy. Not quite sure yet.
Will let you if and when I make the jump.

I use twitter as my news feed mainly. Lots of interesting stuff but YMMV

yeah X i use it to gather information i care about i don't follow people who post about making cups of tea

i love that twitter gets rid of all the junk Facebook has and limits your posts to certain amount of characters

Nope, bought an Android phone outright, had it 3 days hated it, so went out and bought another iPhone 4s out right, and chucked the android phone in the draw, hopefully never to ve seen again

I actually don't mind Facebook. I find it a good way to keep in contact with people. I look at it everyday, but I don't necessarily post updates and pics on it regularly.

Google+ is a waste of time and has missed the boat.

Twitter is a great way to capture snippets of news updates.

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm liking Twitter. I went a bit mad with the follows at first, but have pruned those right back over time. As soon as someone starts dominating the feed, talking rubbish, becoming racist, etc, they get unfollowed pretty quickly.

I'm on Google+ but find it a waste of time so don't use it.

I use Facebook to catch up with what the family's doing back in South Africa, but only once a week or so. Never really post anything.

And on that note, I'm amazed at how much info some people put up. And what's with all the pictures of people's kids? Not necessarily a good thing IMHO.

True re the kids pics Dave which is why when I put pictures of my daughter up they are only viewable by friends

It's partly why I ditched FB - the posts were becoming inane. If anything I think it dilutes relationship. I've gone to Path for the people who's kids pics I actually care about. It's pretty slim pickings though - I have family on there but none are really active. We'll see.

Finally got an email address from my son that I can use to keep in contact with him so have just deleted my Facebook account. Felt so good!

Terminated my account about a year ago as I didn't like how flippant they were with my privacy... How's that?

Privacy is a real issue. And really boring to the point it was no fun.
