My setup:
24" iMac Core 2, 640GB HD, 4GB RAM (mid 2009)
13" MBP Core 2 2.53ghz 250GB HD, 4GB RAM
iPhone 3GS 32 GB - mine
iPhone 4 White 32Gb - wife's replacement
iPad 2 Blk 32GB WiFi only
Apple TV 2
2 x Classic iPods 30GB for in car usage
I have no "data backup" device, except for the following.
This next part is a bit of mess...
I have an existing Windows Home Server, 4TB (music, movies, photos, etc) - its old and soon to be redundant as soon as I workout how to replace it with a suitable Apple product. Approx 1TB of the 4 is photos that will gradually increase, my wife loves photography and its my job to make sure the pictures are safe...
I'm thinking a Mac Mini with a QNAP 6 bay NAS attached or similar in RAID setup, because I want to point iPhoto on MBP and iMac to run from NAS, I also want iTunes to run in the same fashion. Once I have that sorted I will point Time Machine to the NAS.
I hope that makes sense, it does to me, but not too sure how to go about it yet or if its possible. I think once new Mac Mini is released along with Lion, i'll jump into the deep end.
Any pointers will be greatly appreciated btw, I come from an Windows/UNIX IT background and like what I see in Apple.
My 2 cents.

Gidday Barnsey, I would also say Welcome to the forum buy you've been a member for ages...but welcome anyway:)
I like your set up, you certainly know what you want to do and once lion's been installed your system is something that i am looking at right now to do. I wan going to go away from the external HDD's and go Raid system, something that's going to be speedy. The HDD set up I am
running at present is somewhat slow, but that might just be when the iMac goes looking for the files it's loading the lot. Anyway interesting in what you have done and intend to do, look forward to seeing how your system works out...

A good alternative may be something like this http://www.kremalici...machine-volume/ I have one set up here at home with a few TB of disk and it is working wonderfully.

Thanks for the link, I had a quick read yesterday, I have considered a FreeNAS install which is similar again, and fairly straight forward. I'll be keen to see how Lion interacts with either. I was kinda thinking it would be nice to have a simple setup using a QNap style box, cause my time is limited and don't have heaps of time to chase conflicts etc. I think i'll have to give it a crack and see what comes of it, now just need to find a box to try em on. If it all goes pear shaped I can pull the HDD's out n put them in a QNap style box.
Mick - it's easy just follow your nose and instructions, as the blog said it looks pretty geeky, but to be honest it wasn't really. That's the beauty of open source, lots of people willing to helped you out.

Hope you found it useful, I used to run the setup on an old machine and it was OK - but have just built a new purpose built machine using a low power Atom CPU motherboard in a mini tower case. It runs almost silently so I should be able to chuck it in the home entertainment cabinet in the lounge without any issues (as long as I put some tape over the power and HDD LEDs).
It only has a 200GB drive in it at the moment but I intend to put a 2TB drive (or 2 or 3) in there soon and might look to migrate my iTunes library from an external USB drive to this machine (assuming I can run my iTunes library from a network share?).
And Mick - give it a go the instructions may look daunting but that is mainly due to the detail the guy goes in to. It is pretty easy to follow and the questions and answers area on that page is a great place to get help. If all else fails you are welcome to ask me and I'll do what I can to help.
Cheers
Jamie

Has anyone got any pictures to post of their extra gear purchases in their set ups since Mick posted this up, maybe some new members would like to share their set ups with us.
Would love to see what people have in their collections to date, show us your love of Apple gear and how your set up.
I have only managed to add 2 iPads to the collections since last post in here, The new iPad and iPad 2 will have to do for us for the rest of the year or two i think.
