HI everyone

I am new to the world of MAc and am happy to have discover an australian mag and a forum.
I would like to know about mail sorting.

When mail arrives in the in box I would like it to go directly to the folder that I created for it. without me having to open it first and then direct it. It does not. It stays in th inbox and I have to manually direct it to the created folder afterwards.
Ex: I receive an email from: Donna n. I have a folder for Donna but it does not go there.

If there anybody that could tell if that could be achieved? Can that be done on MAc email. I used to do it with Thunderbird. All email will be going to their respective folder.

I have created all the folder with different names. But they stay in the inbox.

Two ways to do this.

One is to create Rules. Go to Mail's Preferences. Then click on the Rules tab. Create a new rule and define the rule to meet your needs.

The other is to create Smart Mailboxes. If you first highlight an email from a particular sender by clicking on it, then go to the bottom left of the Mail window, where you will see a "+" sign. Cllick this and choose Smart Mailbox. You will notice that the first rule of the mailbox is already defined for you with the sender's email address.

Repeat as necessary, remembering to name each new Smart Mailbox with a meaningful name as you go along.

That should do it.

My own system

1 - Rules at the first pass to sort things into folders automatically. Some of my rules apply colours to messages as well. My message list includes the folder name for my own reference.
2 - Smart folders which are where I spend the bulk of my time.
