DragonFire, I must have missed your offer for writing up a guide. I have no idea how... It gets mentioned in a number of posts. Maybe I wasn't paying attention a month ago. I would be keen for you to write something up, but we try to steer clear of anything that could verge a bit on the illegal side (and DVD ripping is a grey area). It's a bit of a shame because I think ripping DVDs to have on an Apple TV is quite reasonable. But your guide on here is pretty comprehensive anyway, so thanks for putting that together.

Now, back to the new Apple TV... Here's my review. It was tricky to do without proper internet, but it's a great little machine.

Yeah I can understand that you can't publish things that may verge on illegal. At least there is the guide I have put together in the forums and hopefully people will be able to find and use that :-)

Just read the review of the new Apple TV box, I like the sound of it. Mainly due to the reduced size and increased speed (and also the fact that it will run a lot cooler).
Hopefully we will pick one up in a month or so :yahoo:

I've just had the little box for a week now and are on another learning curve, that's interesting about what you have done above, i thought that buying a dvd and ripping it using the Imtoo DVD ripper Ultimate 6 i purchased wouldn't be anything but legal. Also I did a couple of music DVD's sent them off to the itunes library for use when i want to, all without much fuss.

Got our new Apple TV on Monday - loving it! So much smaller and faster than the old model. Just a shame the TV in the bedroom doesn't have an HDMI input otherwise I'd look at selling the old model and getting another new one.

2TB ... sorry its been one of those days where the fingers and the brain don't always seem to connect!

Post should read:

I have my iTunes library on a 2TB Western Digital external drive and I still have just over a terabyte free on it

It's amazing how disk space in increasing, I remember when a 40MB drive was a big drive to have! Mind you that was in a Mac SE in about 1988 (or so)

All good Jamie,

I have done the same however I have only 900 GB left and I hate the fact it all lives on one drive,( all that work I have put into Itunes For Apple TV) ,It would do my head in if the external drive was compromised.

I gotta start looking at a RAID ,NAS set up or I might just get another 2TB and daisy chain it, either way I gotta get more storage for the backup side of things.

Cheers Jim

I have four external disks sitting on my desk! Only one of them is data, the rest are back up! I so need to get an enclosure one of these days.

So you finally bought one Jim, or you just finally got in working correctly ?

I have picked one up about a dozen times, and put it down a dozen times as well. with two foxtel boxes and a Tivo, i can decide whether or not i actually have a use for an apple tv :(

I threw my Onkyo deck into the tip yesterday, moved my old plasma into the second lounge area.

I went with the Pioneer airplay receiver VSX-921, another purchase from this site's advertising again....it was like advertised at just over $1000 got it for just over $700 went with the Sony bravia 55" led/lcd smart $1800 to just over $1200.

My mistakes was not having the HDMI connections with my old gear, I mean, it just wasn't available like 9 years ago, I cringe every time i think of when plasmas came out, i was stupid enough to pay $8000 for a Fujitsu 50" at the time, for what you get now for under two grand it does everything but cook your dinner, anyway i am stoked with it to be honest, slapped a dongle in the back of the panel and all hooked up to the net, I just need to get the receiver onto the network and all will be sweet with airplay and so on.....I got manuals coming out of my :227: at the moment.
