Sneaky buggers.... Google is holding an event a week before WWDC to announce the next iteration of Google Maps.

Well I guess this confirms Apple will be moving away from Google Maps in iOS 6. But of course Google had to jump in first. The other tech companies are lame and it just shows how threatened they are by Apple.

I think they other players would be rather ticked off, if apple came out with a better mapping system and google didn't respond, pretty damn quickly, so i would assume this is their response.

I can see apple pulling more and more away from google every change they get from now on, the map thing is just the very first shot, it what i think will become a very long war between these two companies.

Not the first shot TL! Steve declared war a couple of years ago.

Brian, it's not like Apple haven't pulled similar stunts - hijacking someone else's launch with their own announcement.

Google threatened? Maybe. Given that Android outsells iOS and Google Maps will remain dominant on the PC, I don't know how threatened they should feel.

LOL. I have to admit it doesn't seem as bad when Apple does it!

I've been reading some tweets from Wikileaks about how much information Google has on us all, it makes me wonder how much Google respects our privacy, I am very curious to see what Apple comes up with as far as an alternative to Google Maps.

Is there any info available?

Google want to be careful or no one will take their media events seriously anymore. I really can't believe they did that.

Google are scared and I love it!

I read that their demo kept on crashing and they showed it on an iPad, not an Android device... What a joke!

I think that was the point - Google will be better on iOS than Apple's maps. "We've been at it longer." Everything I've read is really taking a wait and see approach. If Google did release an app as good as Android, from what I hear, Apple's solution had better be really good.

You always make sense Alex. It will be interesting to see how Apple takes on Google Maps seeing as though Google clearly have the lead in the technology.
