Just a reminder that our competition -- in which everybody was tasked with drawing on their opinion of Dave Bullard and David Braue's personalities to guess which band features on both their iPhone ring tones -- closes today.

Click here to cast your vote.

If you have already casted your vote, please remember that I need a PM or some other indication from you by midnight tonight as to how you voted, as Dave Bullard and I will draw the winners during podcast recording tomorrow.

Judging by the posts in the other forum topic, I have registered votes from the following users:
pisapis
TLCAUS
pmoeser
Gillymaru

Since there were 12 votes cast (as of posting time): if you are one of the other eight, we do not know who you voted for. If this means you, could you please PM me or write me at david.braue@niche.com.au BY MIDNIGHT TONIGHT just to let me know which band you voted for? Or, of course, you can post it in the forums if you are happy to share your guess with everybody else.

I have to confess I would have picked Dave as a sort of "Norman Gunston - A Salute to Abba" kind of guy really.

Cheers,

Very sneaky, very sneaky, since the artist you voted for is not in fact listed on the iTunes Store. Two bob each way, eh?

I had two votes for the Beatles -- Pisapis and TLC -- could the other person who voted for the Beatles please make yourself known?

I voted for the Beatles, have PM'd you ...

I think I might also have voted for Led Zepplin from my PC here at work...

I believe that I voted for the Beatles

Well, then, I believe you too!

Next, could the person other than pmoeser who voted for Paul Kelly let me know who they are?

And the people who voted for Led Zeppelin other than Gillymaru?

And the person who voted for Kylie Minogue?

And, if I could, the person who voted for Duran Duran. Actually, I already know who you are but I want you to admit it to everybody tongue.gif

I actually don't mind Duran Duran, and went through a phase in the 1980s when I used to play 'Arena' at high volume and bang my head to 'Wild Boys'. Whether or not I still do that, I decline to comment on the grounds that it might incriminate me! laugh.gif

However, about the gurnsey, I can make no preannouncements. I am just aiming to get everybody's vote so I can apportion the prizes correctly. If I cannot identify those that voted correctly, prizes will go to those winners that I can name, and the remainder will go to those whose names are drawn out of a hat.

So -- and I'm not saying here whether or not you got the guernsey, mind you -- you might still get the gurnsey, even if you didn't get the guernsey. But especially if you did. Follow?

On that note, I wonder where the expression 'get the guernsey' came from. In the US a 'guernsey' is a stretcher on which athletes are carried off-field after they've been pummeled by an opponent to the point where they cannot walk off the field under their own power. 'Getting the guernsey' would therefore be a bad thing if it were an expression, which it is not.

Here, however, it is associated somehow with good luck. Or, perhaps, getting a particularly tasty hamburger.

Isn't Guernsey in England somewhere?

Hi DragonFire, just reread this -- Looks like TL isn't the only one putting two bob each way!

Would you like to choose one or the other for me to put you down for?

A guernsey is a jumper. As in one that you wear. While you're playing sport. Usually one of the football codes. If you got a guernsey it meant you're part of the team. Called up for play. Given a go. Fair treatment. Accepted as capable and valued as a contributor.

When I gave you the Switcher Sensei column, that's when you got your guernsey for AMW in print.

Yes, it's one of the Channel Isles (ie in the English Channel.) One of the other islands is Jersey. Jersey and Guernsey are used interchangably in Australia (ie a footy jersey is the same as a footy guernsey.)

Ah yes, that makes sense. And thank you again for that -- I wear it with pride!

Curious fact about Jersey, from Wikipedia:

"Jersey wonders, or mèrvelles, are a favourite snack consisting of fried dough, especially at country fêtes. According to tradition, the success of cooking depends on the state of the tide."

State of the tide?

Just thought I'd throw that one in.

What about in the UK? Do they wear football guernseys in Jersey, or football jerseys in Guernsey?

And where do the cows come into it all? Each island has its own breed of cow so if they played football, would the Jersey Jerseys wear guernseys or jerseys? And would Jerseys who had been relocated to Guernsey wear jerseys or guernseys? Or, perhaps, they could wear Guernsey jersies, or even Jersey guernseys to confuse the Guernseys wearing Guernsey guernseys.

Oh, my aching head.
