The rumor mill, has taken a bit of spike this afternoon with info that iOS 6 will be available on the first day of the WWDC, with advanced Siri that can launch apps, switch Bluetooth on and off, etc etc.

What's everybody's thoughts, will we see it in 3 weeks, or are people just hungry for info on ios 6, and are now just dreaming up release dates.

I can believe an early release. iOS is no longer dependent on the iPhone and iirc it's consistent with past releases. I'm not too sure how much this will benefit me. I doubt it will run on 3GS and will Siri run on iPad 2?

Oh goody, another gigabyte of downloads!

This week it was the OS upgrade, IOS upgrades x2 and of course Aperture - just about 2GB in total adding in all the apps. Do you know how long that takes on public wifi? <_<

Cheers,

P

It won't be released at WWDC. I hate these stupid Rumours.

Developers need time to ensure their Apps are compatible with the new OS.

We'll see it closer to the release of the next iPhone, or when the next iPhone is released.

Given that there has been no indications from developers that iOS 6 is in alpha or beta testing I can't see it being released at WWDC, it may be announced and previewed at WWDC but there won't be a release.

WWDC this year I think will see Mountain Lion released and a slew of new Macs, no iPhone and no iOS 6 other than an announcment and mock up type preview.

I think improvements to iCloud maybe as well. iWork.com is closing down which means they need to release iWork apps with iCloud integration.

How about a new version of the OS for Apple TV (gen 2 and 3) that allows you to run iOS apps using your iPod/iPhone/iPad as the controller?

Now that could be a logical upgrade, while also getting more people to visit the iTunes store, and make apple some more of this $$$$

There's already capacity for that in the system. Real Racing does a pretty good job, although I don't know of any others. Of course, many games simply aren't suitable. But it's begging for more of this kind of integration and something I'd like to see more of.

So whats does everybody think? will iOS 6 not the opposition out of the ball park, or will it just be a bunch of new apps, and a few other long over due features ?

I'm not expecting to be bowled over by it. Set my expectations low and I won't be disappointed. I also think it will be announced but not released - just developer preview.

Well I hope that the release of iOS 6 will not only bring with it new features for the iPhone 5 and the new IMac's it will send my bank balance in to overdraft, so me being the positive one, will hope for the best and when we get less, well I will not be disappointed, I will still be happy as I wouldn't have spent as much cash as I was anticipating.
Meeting with our company insurance executives last week, discussing the shipping / insurance of container loads of products from our SA manufacturing facility to overseas destinations, our personal travel insurance and my personal computer, he said that the company should own the computer, not me, so I am going to buy two, one for home, another iMac 27" (which I own) and I will replace the MBA11" (which I own) with one of the new ones released / hopefully realeased, next week. It's going to be like Christmas around here for me....well I hope it will be....think positive.....

Just wondering if anyone knows if iOS6 will allow you to finally block numbers at the phone level instead of having to call up you phone company and get them to block them.

In addition to that I'd also like to be able to block "blocked" numbers. Just because most calls from "blocked" numbers I get are sale calls from banks or some other call centre sales call.

Phone level Visual VoiceMail would also be good. I turned my Optus voicemail off because work would just leave blank message after blank message and I'm in the car most of the time when they call. And Optus still don't have Visual VoiceMail setup, as far as I know. I'm sure it would be easy for the iPhone to record a voicemail message and then play it back to you when you want it. No need for the phone companies to do anything. And you could record your own "greeting" or have Siri answer the call for you. Siri could even take notes from the person and reschedule a meeting with that person if that's the reason they are calling you.

Just a thought.
