Thoughts On Jailbreaking

I was surprised how expensive it is to get the really useful apps - more than you'd expect for something like that on the App Store apps. I know you can get most of them for free, but I like to respect people's IP and couldn't get the sources working in Cydia anyway!
In any case, there are only a couple of apps that really interest me - iOS 5 is going to fix most of my frustrations and, for me, render JBing pretty pointless. Well, not worth holding off on iOS 5 for goodness knows how long until a new JB comes along... if ever.
So I'll probably just install the next iOS update and ditch the JB. Haven't installed any paid apps anyway.
Any other experiences?

Although, there's probably a number of folks without your moral scruples about respecting IP who will crack just to pirate apps...

I'm just chicken to do it... I admit it. I'm also happy the way my phone works.

You can blame your Australian Telcos for that one! (Although that said if we had the chance to cross the ditch and both get jobs then I'd be keen to as you have many bonuses, not the least of which being Apple Stores, but the realist in me says that with me being 42 in a few days and my wife being 41 then our chances of employment are relatively slim and then there is the issue of day care costs for our wee girl, blah blah blah etc.)
Fortunately iPhones in NZ have never been locked to a telco so we haven't had that issue and the only reason I originally Jailbroke my iPhone was to enable me the ability to change the mail alert sound! Now that iOS 5 has that ability (albeit with a limited selection of sounds) I don't see a huge need to jailbreak.
I should also note that I find a non-jailbroken phone more stable than a jailbroken one but YMMV.

Tim, when you say it wouldn't work in New Zealand, was it a locked phone? Why would NZ be different to any other country?
I carry my unlocked (not jailbroken) phone everywhere, and am yet to find a country where one of my ever growing collection of sim cards won't work. I'd love to know what the problem is before I encounter it!
