Does anyone know of a reliable (preferably free) file converter for Mac OS 10.6.4 that can convert .TOD to .MOV files for the purpose of editing in Final Cut Express?

Currently all the video files are stored on the hard disk drive of a JVC Everio 3ccd GZ-HD7 automatically in .TOD (apparently the .TOD file format is used by JVC for copyright reasons). This makes it almost impossible to import into Final Cut Express without some kind of converter software.

Help please!!

Hey TLCAUS

Thanks for your help. I may be looking in the wrong place but I can't seem to see .TOD as a supported input format. Is there anywhere where might be able to find a full list of supported formats?

Don't you just love these customised solutions that companies come up with! I recently had to do a similar job for the outlaws with JVC Everio files, and found a site that suggested all you needed to do was change the file extension. I wouldn't recommend this - while the video still worked, we lost all audio in both formats when we converted it back to the JVC format. Fortunately I'd kept a backup of the original files.

In the end we just left it as it was, but you could try PRISM from nch.com.au. I've used their Switch product for audio and it does seem to work across most programs, so hopefully the video software will be the same.
