I have done a fair few market research groups where you get paid for your opinion.

I have been in groups discussing everything from Beer labelling, to hot water systems, credit cards...I've done food tasting as well.

Last week I went to the best group I have ever done.... The requirements were that you had to have a smartphone and have downloaded both your Telco and banks Apps.

I managed to get into this group and it was fun.

Out of the 6 people in the group, two of us had iPhones and the rest had Android phones.

What the group was on, was that either a bank or Telco is looking at bringing out a new App that is controlled by voice activation.

The lady who led the group demonstrated the new technology and the App. It does 3 things. Firstly instead of having to type in a pin number to access the app, you use your voice as your password. You can make up any phrase, the program learns your voice and then grants you access when you speak the phrase.

It was awesome and extremely accurate. Of course I had to jump and volunteer myself to test it out and it wouldn't let me in, only the lady who's voice it recognised.

The second feature of the app was that once you were in, you could use voice commands to control the app. The voice assistant was called 'Nina'. The market researcher demonstrated a demo banking app and she said things like 'show me my current rate', transfer 10 dollars from my savings account to my credit card account', 'where are my nearest ATMS'. It was dead accurate. We were all skeptical because of how Siri isn't so accurate and voice activation isn't that great in general, and Nina is just like another Siri, so I jumped up again to test it out and it was spot on...accurate.....it was amazing.

The third feature of the App is that you will be able to schedule a call back from a call centre instead of waiting on the phone for someone to assist you. How brilliant would that be fora telco.

I then noticed that the company who had designed this software was Nuance.... The Dragon Dictate guys.

I never found out who's thinking of using this technology. I asked the marker researcher and she said its still undecided, but all I can say is that I hope ANZ brings this out as it would be a brilliant App.

Lastly, Apple should have bought out Nuance, because it looks a lot more accurate than Siri....:)

Cool story.
You might not know it to look at me, but I'm pretty radical.
