20th anniversary celebrations and AGM

TAAMUG will hold their AGM which will be followed by a semiformal program to celebrate the 20th year of the club
All past and present members and other interested people are invited to attend.

The Club has three basic aims: providing assistance, disseminating information and effectively combining our knowledge of computer activities.

Adobe InDesign User Group - Melbourne

Type and Font Management presented by Adobe’s Mike McHugh

20 August 2008 (Wednesday)
6.30pm - 9.00pm
RMIT University, Brunswick
25 Dawson Street, Building 514, Auditorium (Level 2)

Meeting details

Type and font (mis)management - We’re all guilty of it.

* We had seen the pink highlights.
* We had been faced by the Find Font dialog box, one too many times.
* We thought TrueType, OpenType, and PostScript fonts are the same thing with different names (aren’t they?).
* We had text that didn’t print (I swear it was there!).
* We had text that printed … funny.
* We believed there’s no crime in sharing fonts.
* We had no idea when to embed fonts or why we need to anyway.
* We can’t understand why some fonts can’t be converted to outlines.

Adobe’s Mike McHugh will set the record straight and show us how InDesign access fonts. Mike will explain what the different types of fonts are, and even the legalities of font distribution. You will also learn about font embedding/converting to outlines, font matching, and some other cool designer tips for fonts including OpenType fonts.

Schedule

6.30 – 6.50pm: Registration, meet-and-greet
6.50 – 7.00pm: Welcome to the meeting
7.00 – 8.00pm: Type and Font Management by Mike McHugh (Adobe)
8.00 – 8.30pm: Q&A
8.30 – 9.00pm: Prize giveaway, mingle.

Attendance is free but seating is limited.*

* We adopt a first-come, first-served seating policy.

BMUG covered the subject of email more than 12 months ago, however, we feel that it is such an important part of everyone’s computer experience, that it is well worth holding another session on the subject. We are also aware that we have many more recent members who may appreciate being let in on the secrets of easy and convenient email techniques.
