Paragon Software Group and Oxford UP has released the ninth and newest edition of the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary app for Android and iOS users. The app targets mobile users who need a reliable and the most up-to-date reference source always at hand. The app is based on the world’s most popular and best-selling print dictionary of the same title with lifetime sales of over 38 million copies.

The ninth edition comes with new features, redesigned user interface and 900 new definitions. These include 170 words from technology (for example, ‘autofill’, ‘phablet’), new colloquial terms (for example, ‘chill pill’, ‘deal with it!’, ‘bessie/bezzie’, ‘boot-faced’), new twists on old words (for example, ‘twitterverse’, ‘twitterati’, ‘p-book’), e-compounds (for example, ‘e-bike’, ‘e-cigarette’), lifestyle terms (for example, ‘chipotle’, ‘foccacia’, ‘twerk’), jargoni words going into mainstream (for example, ‘critical mess’), words from foreign languages, including two Japanese words — ‘shojo’ and ‘shonen’, Australian ‘schmick’, French ‘parfait’, Indian ‘chappal’, ‘chhi-chhi’, East African ‘mzungu’ and many others.
