App Guide

Well, AppyNation’s right – the latest game they have developed is a ‘puzzle game like no other’, to say the least.

The objective of the game is to use your mystical Ninja Farmer powers to solve unique farm puzzles by correctly allocating the right amount of animals to different fenced off areas in the farm, according to the number that’s displayed in that area. This will bring peace and order to the animals grazing in their fields.

When first launching the app you’re introduced to the daily spin, which is basically the determiner of how many coins you get per day to use in-game.

These in-game coins can be used to unlock new farm puzzles to solve, to get hints as to how to solve puzzles, and to purchase new themes, animal costumes and more.

Before you start your first farm puzzle, there’s a quick tutorial that explains how the game works and shows you the general gist of it.

Personally, I felt that, while there was a tutorial included in-game, it still took me a few puzzles to understand completely how the game worked and the best strategies to implement while playing it.

Solving the puzzles is fun, and once you finally draw up that final fence, it’s extremely satisfying.

The graphics of this game are amazing, and the animals are adorable. What’s really eye-catching are the beautiful menu screens, with their animated backgrounds.

Sound effects in Ninja Ranch are sometimes very weird – there seems to be a mysterious man yawning in the background every so often when you’re solving puzzles.  The background music is very strange as well, it’s just a mixture of noise that kind of sounds like someone’s munching on glass.

When I finally started to enjoy Ninja Ranch a bit more and became immersed in the game, of course my coins had to run out (which meant I couldn’t unlock any more new farms to play.) This was very frustrating, because my only options were to purchase more coins using real-life money, replay old farms, or wait until the next day to use the daily spinner again.

Macworld Australia’s buying advice.

If you fancy a brain stimulating game with unique puzzles, then Ninja Ranch may be the game you’re looking for.  Its beautiful graphics, cute animals and satisfying puzzles overshadow the weird sound effects and the frustration of having to wait a day to get coins.
