Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but as any photographer will tell you, there is nothing more frustrating than seeing one of your photos posted without credit – or worse yet, with someone else claiming it as their own.

MyPix Photo Watermarking and Sharing by Mentz Hill Studios provides iPhoneographers with a simple and easy way to help prevent would-be photo thieves from falsely claiming credit for images by allowing you to create customised watermarks.

Launch the app and you’re prompted to either select a photo from your Camera Roll or to take a new photo with your iOS device’s camera. Once you have selected the photo you want to watermark, a watermark showing the year and text appear on the photo (the default text is © 2012 MyPixApp.com).

Every aspect of the watermark is easily customisable. Double tap the watermark and you can alter its appearance by changing the text, font, font colour and watermark opacity. There are 47 in-app fonts to choose from and two sliders allow you to control the font colour and opacity.

Repositioning the watermark is also easy. Simply drag the text by tapping and holding it with one finger, then move it around the frame. You can use two fingers to rotate the watermark as well. The pinch-to-zoom gesture lets you resize the watermark.

Once you’re satisfied with the way your watermarked photo looks, you can choose to either save it to your Camera Roll or to share it via email, Facebook, Twitter, TwitPic or Flickr.

The beauty of MyPix is its simplicity – the intuitive interface allows you to create the watermark and share your photo in less than a minute. My only complaint is that there isn’t more sharing and saving options built into the app. Integrating Apple’s iCloud or adding Dropbox functionality would take this app to the next level.

Minor complaints aside though, if you’re looking for an easy way to create clean and professional watermarks, the $2 MyPix app is a solid choice.
