Boom for Mac
OS X 10.6.6 or later
Age Rating: 4+
Disappointed with the sound output of your Mac speakers? While the built-in speakers continue to improve, Apple has a limit on the maximum output volume for its computers.
Global Delight’s Boom seeks to solve this issue in two ways. The first is by boosting the audio volume of the Mac’s speakers, enabling music, video, FaceTime and any other audio to be heard in noisy environments. Once installed, Boom adds a menu-bar icon that includes a volume slider in a similar fashion to Apple’s own volume slider.
Boom doesn’t end there, however; the app offers a more detailed interface if required that allows users to toggle volume boosting on or off, increase or decrease the volume by moving a slider and adjust the equaliser settings. The system-wide equaliser offers a series of presets, customisable options for your favourite apps and a 10-band equaliser.
Boom can also alter the volume of your music files on your Mac so they are ‘boosted’ when synced to an iOS device. Users can drag and drop files into the app, set the volume slider to the new level required and the app does the rest.
Unveiled at the Macworld 2011 expo in the US, Boom collected the Best of Show Award and currently holds a 4.5-star rating in the Mac App Store.
